CHICAGO BLUES IS ELECTRIC

On Maxwell Street, in Chicago, starting in the late 1930s, musicians began to play electric and amplified instruments so that people on the street could hear them and be drawn into the establishments where they performed. When Muddy Waters recorded for Aristocrat Records in 1947 and later for Chess Records, also in Chicago, he ushered in a new age of electrified blues.
