MARTIN LANG

Martin Lang is a traditional Blues harp player based in Chicago, and is a leading player in the post-war amplified Blues style, honed over 25+ years behind the legendary Taildragger. A veteran session player with Chicago’s Delmark Records, Martin Lang has toured Europe and the United States alongside blues legends such as Pinetop Perkins, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Sam Lay, Willie Smith and Dave Myers. Lang’s playing has appeared on records with John Brim Sr., Little Arthur, and many more. He has performed at Chicago Blues Fest numerous times, as well as the King Biscuit Blues Festival, Mississippi Saxophone Festival and more. An Irishman hailing from the East Coast, Martin arrived in Chicago as a teenager enamored with blues. A former French horn player, his chops found a new home with the harp. Not content to merely appreciate the blues, he dug in like a tick to the crumbling but in tact Chicago blues scene in the late 1980’s, gleaning the knowledge that can only be hard won from original players. Today, his playing is great example of Chicago blues harp.
